Ireland Virtual Mission Trip

DAY 1 *|MC:SUBJECT|*
An image of The Book of Kells, also known as The Book of Columba. This beautiful 9th century illuminated manuscript contains all four Gospels and you can see it at Trinity College in Dublin.

Good morning team, welcome to Day 1 of our Virtual Trip! I pray you will all be blessed and draw closer to Jesus with today's activities.

Andrew Clements, our e3 National Director was born in Kilkeel, Northern Ireland. His wife Jen is from Falkirk, Scotland. They have been married for 10 years and have two children, Fraser and Eilidh. Andrew and Jen have been serving with e3 since 2016 and live in Kilkeel.

Today's Devotional:
Andrew will be presenting today's devotional, The Parable of the Mustard Seed from Mark 4:30-32.

Today's Worship:
Our leaders today are a duo from Northern Ireland, Keith and Kristyn Getty. Keith was born in Lisburn, a city we have taken teams to several times and Kristyn is from Belfast. They are best known for writing many popular modern hymns, some of which I'm sure you have sung in church like "In Christ Alone." We will start off the week with them leading us with "We Believe, Apostle's Creed."

Today's Equipping:
Andrew is equipping us today by sharing the vision we believe God has given us to reach all of Ireland with the Gospel by the year 2032.

A wee bit extra:
Why is Ireland called The Island (or The Land) of Saints and Scholars? Below is a interesting video that explains.

For all of my fellow bibliophiles, here is more! Ireland has produced some of literature's greatest writers like Bram Stoker, Oscar Wilde, James Joyce, Seamus Heaney, W.B Yeats and Jonathon Swift. As well as theologians we all know and admire like C.S. Lewis and Alister McGrath.

There are several books about Ireland that I highly recommend:
How the Irish Saved Civilization by Thomas Cahill
St. Patrick of Ireland by Philip Freeman
The Search for God and Guinness by Stephen Mansfield
Brendan (a novel) by Frederick Buechner

Did You Know?
There is park in Belfast called CS Lewis Square which has bronze sculptures of Narnia! This public space is to commemorate Belfast-born C.S. Lewis.
Everyone knows of Trinity College in Dublin with it's famous, and worth-visiting, library. But you can also visit another, much smaller, Dublin library called Marsh Library. They used to lock people in the little rooms (see picture below) while they were studying and researching so they couldn't steal the books! This is where Bram Stoker did much research as he was writing Dracula.

The Hill of Slane in the Boyne Valley. This area is called "Ireland's Ancient East" and Slane is where St. Patrick lit the Paschal fire bringing Christianity to Ireland.

Good Morning Team! Welcome to Day 2. May the Lord bless you today as you pray for and learn more about Ireland.

Tony and Lisa Svendsen have been serving with e3 Partners since 2006. Tony serves at the Ireland Strategy Director and Player Coach for European Regional Team. Lisa serves as Team Leader for Ireland as well as Team Health Coordinator for European Regional Team. They've been married for 18 years and live in Houston, Texas.

Today's Devotional:
Tony will be leading us through the Four Fields of Mark 4:26-29.

Today's Worship:
Our worship leader today is Belfast native, Brian Houston. Brian's music is more in the genre of folk or indie Christian. Very unique sound!

Today's Equipping:
Tony will be equipping us today with training through the Mission of God.
  Who was St. Patrick:
There are so many myths that surround St. Patrick. Below is a brief video to explain more of who he was.

Also, CBN released a full length movie on March 17, 2020 called I Am Patrick: The Patron Saint of Ireland. Originally, it was to be released in theatres, however, with the stay-at-home orders, they released it on DVD and you can order it here:

A wee bit extra:
There are many places to visit in Ireland that are attached to St. Patrick. Some of these connections to Patrick are real and some are myth/legend...either way, they are wonderful to see!

Below:  Down Cathedral in County Down NI and the alledged burial site of Patrick.

Below: The Rock of Cashel and surrounding countryside in County Tipperary Ireland. This is the reputed site of the conversion of the King of Munster by St. Patrick.

Below: Croagh Patrick in County Mayo Ireland. Also known as "The Reek" it's a place of pilgrimage for many who come every summer to climb. According to tradition, Patrick fasted and prayed here for 40 days in 441 AD.

The Peace Wall in Belfast, Northern Ireland

Good morning team. Remember TODAY WE ARE  FASTING AND PRAYING FOR IRELAND

Born in Romania, Nick Serb is the Pastor of Transformation Centre in Lisburn, NI. Transformation Centre is one of our church partnerships. He has been married to his wife, Michele who was born in Bangor NI, for 12 years. Their children are Abigail, Eliana and Nathanael.

Today's Devotional:
Pastor Nick Serb will be doing our devotional today on the Parable of the Wheat and the Tares.

Today's Worship:
Our leaders today, the band Bluetree, originated in Belfast. They are best known for writing the song "God of This City" which most of us know as a Chris Tomlin song. They will be leading us today with their version of their song and I think it is a perfect one for today as we fast and pray for Ireland.

Today's Equipping:
Tony will be going over Our Father's Heart.

The Spiritual State of Ireland:
Please watch as this video may help guide you in praying for Ireland today. It will show you some of the obstacles we face when trying to engage people in spiritual conversations.

Like much of the rest of Europe, Ireland has some beautiful old cathedrals and churches, that while they may still have a service attended by a few people, most now are museums and mainly visited by tourists.

The entrance to Newgrange in County Meath Ireland. This "passage tomb" and chamber are alighted at sunrise on the Winter Solstice. Newgrange was build around 3200 BC making it older than Stonehenge and the Egyptian Pyramids!
Good morning and welcome to Day 4 of our virtual trip. May the Lord bless you all today!

Today's Devotional:
Lisa will be presenting our devotional today on the Parable of the Wedding Feast from Luke 14:7-14.

Today's Worship:
Our leader today is Belfast native Robin Mark.  Robin is a well-known Christian singer and songwriter and you may all be familiar with this wonderful song.

Additional Worship:
I wanted to include this additional worship song as it reminds me of today's devotional Scripture. It is by the American group MercyMe.

Today's Equipping:
Tony will be equipping us from Luke 10:2 and doing a House or Person of Peace search.

Brief History of Ireland:
Here's an entertaining video that summarizes Ireland's history in about 10 minutes...Enjoy!

A wee bit extra:
While Ireland is well known for it's beautiful landscape and rugged coastline, it also holds many ancient sites that should be on the "must-see" list of people who love history.

The Round Tower of Swords is the only remaining remnant of the monastery built by St. Columba in 512 AD. It is a short bus ride from the Dublin Airport.

The High Cross at the ruined site of Monasterboice in County Louth, Ireland. It dates back to the 10th, possibly 9th century. Just to give you some perspective at the enormity of it, that's me standing next to it, I'm about 5 ft 4 1/2 in tall...It is massive!

Glendalough in the beautiful Wicklow Mountains. This monastic settlement was founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century.

Strongbow, who was mentioned in the video, is buried in Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin City Centre.

Skellig Michael. This is one of the oldest monastic sites in Ireland as the first reference to it dates back to 600 AD. The monks of St. Fionan's monastery, who lived in the bee hive shaped huts, would descend the 670 steps every morning to fish. Star Wars:The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, were filmed on the island which lies 8 miles off the mainland of County Kerry.

Today's Equipping:
Andrew will conclude our training with a simple way to make disciples. The tool is called 4-1-1.

Team Debrief:
Thank you all so much for taking time this week to worship our Lord with us! We pray that you were not only blessed this week but also know more clearly how much Ireland is in need of the Gospel. While there are many strongholds and obstacles to overcome, we truly believe God is going to bring revival to Ireland and once again use the Irish people to reach the rest of mainland Europe for Jesus.

Please continue to pray for the Gospel of Jesus to go forth, disciples raised up and churches planted all over Ireland. Below are four of some of the largest cities on the island representing all four directions. Clockwise from the top left: Dublin in the East, Belfast in the North, Galway in the West and Cork in the South.
